It'll take a card more than twice as fast in all games as my 5850 but under £200 to make me upgrade at the moment, as I'm quite happy with performance really. I'll aim to hold out as long as possible tbh, maybe for the following generation another year and a half down the line. I want to stick with ATi for now anyway, as their solutions seem to have lower power consumption generally.
Tom's hardware has some info on the 7000's here. Looks like the 7900s will be PCI-e 3.0 and with XDR2 memory.

calm down chum, the PCIe spec is always backwards+forwards compatible - it will go in a PCIe 2 mobo (or a PCIe 1 mobo).

They're already out. But given the PCI-E controller is on the CPU for Intel chips these days you might have to wait for the CPU as well.
Hmm okay. I assume second gen Bulldzoer, perhaps first, will have it - considering it is an AMD card that needs it.
Hexus just posted this news on PCI-e 3.
The first won't have it as the 990FX doesn't support PCI-e 3 and neither do any 3rd party controllers such as the NF200 or Lucid's offerings AFAIK.
AMD won't cut off their noses to spite their faces either in regards to hampering their own GPU's. - even if not beneficial to performance, having the first PCI-e 3 GPU is something their competitors don't.

In most cases it is going to make little or no difference!!
A PCI-E 2.0 16X lane on a 990FX motherboard is going to have more bandwidth available than a PCI-E 3.0 8X lane and even with the lower overheads of PCI-E 3.0 at most they will be about the same.
