    GTX 570 future SLI question

I'm currently in the process of deciding parts for my first build and have decided to go for the GTX 570 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC.

However, whilst choosing my PSU, I couldn't decide whether it was actually worth spending the extra money to get one that would be able to power two 570's in SLI further down the line if I decided to.

So basically, my question is, if you're not buying 2 gfx cards straight away is there any point getting say, an 850w psu for sli potential or do people find that when they *intend* to buy an additional card later, they actually just end up upgrading their current graphics card?

I've always found a decent mid-upper range will do for nearly 2 years or so on a decent display, by that time a twin card is almost impossible to find new, and contemporary cards around the same price range as the previous gen cards are considerably faster.

Re: GTX 570 future SLI question

For PSU I've found after years of experimenting thats its just best to buy the best one you can possibly afford when you buy it. That way you have comfortable overhead for power, and if its a good brand then you have no power quality concerns. Troubleshooting is so much easier when you can move power to pretty much the bottom of the list as a poss issue. Also by buying the best psu you possibly can you can reuse it on 2-4 builds, depending on how often you upgrade your system, giving a considerable saving vs the same number of cheaper "just enough power" psu's over the same amount of time. I know psu's ain't sexy and you rarely see anyone rave over them, but between that and the mobo are the 2 most important components in my opinion.

On the SLi front, I'm on my 3rd SLi system now, started with a twin 7800GTX system back when SLI first started on one of the first AMD dual cores.
Next I bought a q6600 with a single 8800GT with the intention of saving up for its pair when prices dropped and I had the cash. By the time 10 months later came round it was impossible to find an exact match, and the performance gain vs a new generation card was borderline.

On reflection I think SLI is only worth it if you buy them both at the same time or within 6ish months of each other.

Cheers guys, you both pretty much agreed with what I was thinking.

I am looking for a decent PSU which is why I would rather pay the same price for a good quality one rather then for increased wattage.

Just got to wait until Scan has the graphics card I want back in and I'm good to order!

Re: GTX 570 future SLI question

This is true, as 2 friends just got the toxic's and 1 guy can unlock both and the other only 1..

I'm also thinking about the NEW 560's on the 100000+ failed 570 chips about to be released.. also want to see what the new AMD's will do.
