    Question 9800 PRO - 128Mb or 256Mb DDRII?

I'm on the verge on buying one of these 2nd hand, I've seen both pop up on the forum but I'm not sure which is better. I know looking at the numbers only the DDRII one looks better, but it's often the case that more RAM for not much more money = slower card (or rather slower RAM and sometimes core, with the extra memory going to waste).

Cheers in advance for the advice,

    Bruno

A 9800Pro with 256MB should have the same speeds on the memory and core as the 128MB version.. check to be sure, but I believe that is the case with all of them. Though I do not know if you'll ever see more performance from the extra memory. But if the price difference is small, I guess you can always get it just for fun
Light travels faster than sound. Is this why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

I agree with StarMjolk, you'll probably never see the performance difference. If you have the money to spare the the price difference is only small then go for it.
If there is a big price difference then i'd just go for the 128mb (its not bad anyway!) and get an artic cooler and some ram sinks and clock it up to XT speeds!

Cool - I think if either come up again, a purchase may have to be made .... or should I wait 'till Doom III comes out, I'm sure they'll be a spate of people selling of cards to buy a £300+ card just for the hell of it

the 256s, depending on the core, can be modded to fully-fledged 9800XT's with certain 9800 256s even including the overdrive feature... but it is pot luck ofc.
