Ti4200 Wont work with any drivers

    Hi there
I've just upgraded my main PC (practically bought a whole new one) and i'm trying to get my old rig working with a Ti4200 that i had spare

I've just formatted the hard disk and installed windows XP with SP 1 and some of the critical updates

Im running an Athlon 2400+, 512mb of GEIL ram all on an Abit NF7 mobo

Basically, the card seems to work fine in windows just after the format, but as soon as i install any detonator drivers (i've tried the latest ones and some older ones that somebody told me they use with their Ti4200) and after reboot it gets to the point where the desktop should display, and the monitor just goes into standby and stays blank. upon rebooting again it has the choices for safe mode etc like a bad startup does.

Does anyone have any ideas at all? I can get back into windows easily by choosing "last known good configuration" but im stuck in 800x600 with 60 Hz - OUCH MY EYES

    thanks guys

Maybe i'll try my spare Radeon 9000, but it's not such a good card as the Geforce.....

Tried changing the monitor you're using? Although unlikely, sometimes certain monitors don't work properly with some systems.

I have a similar problem with a couple of GF3 cards. The drivers that I have working are ancient but any attempt to update to newer drivers and windows just won't load... progress bar freezes. I think think there is some DVI TFT incompatability so I just stick with what I have working. I don't see as it matters whether you go Nvidia or ATI it's just down to luck if things work in the wacky world of computers.

Make sure you have the latest bios I've fixed graphics card issue with bios updates in the past.

Ensure that you have the latest chipset drivers for your mainboard specifically the AGP driver.

Try some early detonator drivers perhaps even the ones that came with the graphics card if you still have the CD.

Try a different monitor or different connections Dsub / DVI.

Sacrifice a console to the god of good luck.

I'll see if i can get some of the 40 range of detonators, i think they were the ones i used before..... I'll also try it on my other monitor but i dont think that will help. Cheers for the ideas though.

oh yeah, there's also a weird little beep when i turn the PC on.... never used to be there with this or any other graphics card, it's like the normal "BIOS okay" single beep, but quieter and a tiny bit shorter, happens IMMEDIATELY after turning on just before the nvidia "128mb Ti4200" screen appears

    think this could be related?

It sounds like your monitor cant display the right signal, ie the wrong refresh rate..try a diff monitor - or make sure that windows knows your monitors exact name/model
