    Question Best performing 6800GT

Just been asked to build a gaming rig for a friend based around a 6800GT. Just wondered if anyone knew if any paticular brand was out performing the others, or if they're all pretty much on a par with each other? Personally I've used PNY before & have had good reliable cards & Gainward....v-unreliable in my experience.

    1. Use 'search'. This subject has been covered many times.
    2. They are all pretty much the same. Overclocking - it's the luck of the draw.

I bought one at PC Components Centre (ie PCW or Dixons) and was supplied with the no-name one in a 6800 box with a GT sticker hastily applied which is the same as in the review posted here on Hexus.

However, there is another one with proper AOpen branding and extra capacitors as on the Asus boards and in a propely printed box - as on the www.aopen.nl site. I suspect the Hexus-reviewed one is from the early batch of hurried-to-market ones and the branded one is the properly branded tweaked one. I think that the barebones ones do not clock so well whereas the branded ones do better.

Leadtek, PNY or XFX (if u can find any) are usually very good performers (and good clockers too)

i bought a 6800 GT directly from the eVga web site a couple weeks ago and mine overclocks to 430/1180 and works flawlessly with no artifacts. they have great customer service too and they offer a step-up program in case you decide you want to go with the 6800 Ultra, pretty pointless to upgrade if you ask me though. not all cards overclock the same, but from what i have read the eVga usually overclocks pretty high.
