    Re: Hd7970

    Actually one other quick question.

Would a 7970 be able to handle 2560x1600 ok?

OCing is as easy as opening the Catlyst control centre built into the drivers, selecting 'Overdrive', and sliding the controls provided to the right. There is very very little risk to OCing in this manner as it does not touch the voltage used by the card.
Same here - its a cracker! And not lets forget the compute power of this card!

    Re: Hd7970

I'll be speaking to Scan tommorow but the windforce one isnt in stock atm, so would leave with the DirectCU II.

Of the two which one is best?

go to newegg for customers reviews - i.e put hd7950 DirectCU II in search. I often use newegg as part of my research. Customers feedback rather than a cherry picked item sent to a reviewer, such as hexus anandtec, no offense to any of these sites.

    Re: Hd7970

Seems like the windforce has got quite a lot more good reviews than the DirectCU II.

Problem is it isnt in stock...

    Re: Hd7970

Which would mean a delay to your build. Doesn't mean you can't have it, just that scan would have to order it in for you, and everything would have to wait for it....
Nothing wrong with the DCu though.

EDIT: What about this one ?

    Re: Hd7970

I know, problem being that the computers already been delayed by about a month as i originally bought it elsewhere, had to send it back twice due to problems, third time i gave up and got a refund. Daft thing is i wanted the new one for a specific large nhs job, and of course im almost fnished it now.

With regards the CU II, most peoples compaint seemed to be to do with overclocking, so not sure how relevant that is to myself. I havent done it before but guys said its just a simple enough thing in CCC so may as well give it a bash.

Really? It's only a graphics card, you pretty much just place it in and it works. If there is one component that is easy to buy separately it is a graphics card.

    @Phage
It is wrong to say that the 7970 is better than the 680 @ 1600p, it still depends upon game.

Generally speaking whichever card is ahead @ 1080p is still ahead at 1600p. It is very rare that the lead changes, and sometimes it is the 680 that performs better at higher resolutions, it isn't always the memory that is the bottleneck.

    Re: Hd7970

I know how easy it is to fit a gfx card but i'm after a full system with the warranty that comes with.

Surely scan wouldnt offer a warranty on a system thats made up with components bought from elsewhere.

Yep. By far the biggest varaible is the game. Indeed the other differences are so minimal they're not worth arguing about. However I would rather the 7970 at any resolution above 1200. YMMV

Well you could try asking them on their support forum.

Presumably the warranty would still apply to the rest of the system, if anything goes wrong that isn't fixed by reverting to the IGP then it can't be the fault of the gpahics card.
