Re: What's your graphics card history?

    - ATI EGA Wonder 800+ (8 Bit ISA, 256 (?) KB)
    - Paradise VGA (512KB, onboard in a Compaq Deskpro 386/s)
    - OAK Technology OTIVGA 512KB (ISA)
    - Tseng Labs ET4000AX 1MB (ISA)
    - Trident TGUI9440 1MB (PCI)
    - S3 Trio64 V+ 2MB (Onboard via PCI in a HP Vectra Pentium1)
    - Matrox Mystique 6MB (PCI)
    - Diamond Monster 3D II 12MB (3DFX Voodoo II PCI in addition to the Matrox above)
    - SiS 300 32MB (AGP .. sh..ttiest card I've ever owned. Driver problems galore and slow as f**k)
    - Geforce 2 MX 400 (32MB SD, AGP, died with random multi-coloured pixel salad on screen)
    - Geforce FX5200 (64MB DDR, AGP, dirt cheap replacement for the GF2MX, died rather quickly with the same trippy pixel-salad as the GF2 (passive heatsink at 70°C temps))
    - Radeon 9000 (9100?) IGP (64MB Shared .. weirdo chipset graphics thing on a S478 Pentium 4 board which was made by Sapphire O.o)
    - Radeon 9600 128MB (AGP .. "replacing" the above due to absurd driver problems)
    - Geforce 6800GT 256MB (AGP)
    - Geforce 8800GTS 320MB (the older G80 core, PCIe starting with this card)
    - Geforce GTX260 896MB (216SP 55nm including the annoying coil whine and no power saving features)
    - Radeon HD6870 1GB (current card)

Re: What's your graphics card history?

Crikey, struggling to think back that far, it's getting on for 20 years for me :-O

I can't remember every card or the exact order they came in, but I think it was something along the lines of:

Edit: Forgot the first card - was a Cirrus Logic of some sort
    S3 Trio 1Mb (in the days of DOS/Win 3.1/486's)
Some early Matrox 2D/3D accelerator (poss. G200)
    Voodoo 2
    GeForce 2MX
GeForce 4MX (yes I later realised this was basically the same card as the 2MX. I was young and naive back then
    GeForce 4200
    ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
    GeForce 5900FX
ATi Radeon 9500 (had to sell the 5900FX a few months later)
    GeForce 6600
GeForce 8800 GTS (the original 320mb version)
    GeForce 8800 GT
    GeForce GTX 280
    GeForce GTX 480

With the i7 3770 I bought last year, my GTX480 still runs everything fine, so no plans to upgrade again until next year when Elite: Dangerous is released (and hopefully GTA 5 too).

Re: What's your graphics card history?

CPU rendering and integrated graphics saw me through the late 80s and most of the 90s, then:

    1998 - 3dfx Voodoo 2
    2001 - PowerVR Kyro
    2002 - GeForce3 Ti 200
    2003 - Radeon 9500 Pro
    2004 - GeForce 6600
    2004 - GeForce 6600GT (when I realised the 6600 was gimped)
    2005 - Radeon X800XL
    2006 - Radeon X1950XTX
    2007 - GeForce 8800GTX
    2008 - GeForce GTX280
    2010 - GeForce GTX280 Tri-SLI
    2011 - GeForce GTX580
    2012 - GeForce GTX670
    2013 - GeForce GTX560Ti 448 (financial emergency = downgrade)
    2013 - Radeon HD7950 Boost

Mostly great cards, a couple of lemons...

Re: What's your graphics card history?

I can't remember the dates and I may have missed one or two, but I can recall the following:

    Voodoo 3 2000 or 3000 - I can't recall which.
    GeForce3 Ti 200
    Radeon 9700
    GeForce 6600GT
    GeForce 8800GT
    GeForce GTX280
    GeForce GTX580

All great cards and I feel I got my monies worth between upgrades.

Re: What's your graphics card history?

No way can I remember all of them, perhaps a brief selection roughly in order...

First one was an ISA 512KB Genoa card
    Rage 128
    S3 Virge
    Riva 128
    Matrox Mystique with RAM expansion
    Matrox G400 twinhead
Rage Fury Maxx (for about a week - it was awful)
    Riva TNT
    Geforce 256
    Geforce 2
    FX5600
    9600 Pro
    9800SE unlocked to Pro
    SLI 6600GTs
    7800GT
    8800GTS 320MB
    9800GTX+
    4870 1GB
    GTX 295
    GTX 670

There were the odd 3DFX dalliances in there, including Voodoo 2 SLI (still got them), as well as a Voodoo 3 somewhere.

Re: What's your graphics card history?

What was the problem with the Rage Fury Maxx? Just speed? I never owned one but it has to be one of the most memorable names ever in computer hardware :-D I've just ordered a GTX670, can't wait!
