    Question Flickering Screen

I've just noticed this on my parents PC. Sometimes, every few minutes, the screen seems to filicker at the sides slightly. What could cause this?

I'm thinking it's either a faulty graphics card or the screen that's wrong. Both of these are at least five years old , but is there anything else it could be ?

    Thanks

Monitor could be faulty, try reseating video card and cable connection, faulty psu supply, only guessing though.

One thing you can try is slightly tap the side of the monitor and see if you can replicate the flicker on screen if it does flicker then I would say that the monitor is faulty.

Well, I tapped the screen, and nothing. I don't really want to go messing with my parents PC, unless it gets bad, and they ask me too. I'm just looking for possible reasons incase it gets worse.

Most likley the monitor. Check theres nothing near like mains powered fans or other items that give off loads of EMI.

I may have solved the problem . I had my phone on the desk next to the monitor. I think I'm correct in saying that phones can do this sort of thing, yes? I know they can make speakers make beeping noises.

yup, when they transmit they give off a fair amount of EMI, and if its only every few minutes, it sounds like it could easly be that.

    Lightbulb Might need to...

...check the refresh rate! The resolution may be too high, and thus refresh rate not correct, thus your issue...

No, I don't think it's that. We haven't changed the res since it was brought. I now have my phone away from the PC, and it hasn't flickered a bit!

    Problem solved
