    I really don't think that the Ghz/Boost editions had anything to do with 20nm, they were a response to the 600 series.

    It's all tied in. There's no need to re-release a tweaked product with the associated costs (particularly on back-inventory) if you have a new gen product coming up soon, but if 20nm is a way off then you can't drop out of competition for today's market.

    Maybe Nvidia are just behind AMD development, or had a warehouse full of failed chips and decided to make a product range from them before AMD have a chance to make them obsolete or force them to compete on price.
