X800 PRO to X800 XT PE (soft mod)

I just read some articles on modding 1.6ns, vivo x800 pro to x800 xt pe by flashing the bios only.
Anyone tried? Does it really work?
What if I failed to flash the new bios...? Can I just boot up my rig with a pci graphic card and re-flash the bios for my x800 pro?

    Is it SAFE?!!

as I believe it yes you can just reflash using a PCI card.

However.....the reflash re-enables the extra 4 pipelines AND overclocks the core and mem. Some cards might not be up to that job.

You might wanna overclock it a bit at a time as a 12pipeline Pro first....to make sure its man enough for the job.
then IF it is, consider the bios flash.

Think I'm right there...someone will nail me if not....bet your asse on that

I've done this with my x800 pro vivo with 1.6ns ram.I've had it running as a XTPE but I've just flashed it back to a 16 pipe pro as I think it performs better.Flashing your graphics gard is a doddle. Here's a few threads what I used to flash mine with.

and this is the easiest to understand.Just copy everything that is written and you cant go wrong. You wont believe how easy it was.

    here's a list of available gpu bios's

You will need something better than stock cooling if you intend to run it at XTPE speeds.I've got a nice rev4 Arctic Cooler on mine.Running sweet at 531/561.

    Just by benching m8.
    3D 01 x800pro 16 pipe 21000
    3D 01 x800xtpe 19,900
    3D 03 x800pro 16 pipe 1200
    3D 03 x800xtpe 10000
    3D 05 x800pro 5900
    3D 05 x800xtpe 4500 00ps
In aquamark 3 the scores are around the same.
I got the odd game crash as well flashed to a xtpe but none so far touch wood flashed back to a x800 pro.
My temps werent a problem either must be the different volts settings etc what my card didnt like.I'm happy with a 16 pipe pro at XT PE speeds.

Anyone else got lower benchmarks in 3DMARK03 after their X800pro modded to XTPE?

Tighter memory timings in Pro BIOS compared to PE - it's why 6800GTs at Ultra speeds often outperform Ultras at the same clocks.
