Difference between Native Res and Max Res?

Seems to always be the same thing on TFTs, is this something used back in the CRT days?

No, CRTs don't have a "native res". They have a recommended resoultion, wich is usually the highest resoultion before image quality starts to suffer.

The native res is usually the max res on LCDs because thats how many pixels they have. Trying to run at a resolution past that would look like crap.

So why did they not just call it max res?

I knew native res was always max res on TFTs, just seems like one of those silly names for something simple. Thanks though

On TFTs it is recommended to do everything at native res (also usually max res if using correct drivers) otherwise as said above it looks poor. I run a Samsung 21.3" TFT screen 1600x1200 and it looks so sweet. But other resolutions just look blurred/not right. Most games are OK though - i.e I play NFSU2 on 1280x960 and it looks fine - just not as crisp

Yeah, i've been on laptops for years so i learnt that quite early on Although I suppose running at a lower res would give a pseudo-anti-alaising effect in case you didnt have enough power to run full

yeah probably so they can use the same database fields as CRTs and save on any extra development costs
