so, given the option of Sapphire 9800pro 128Mb (256 bus) and XFX 128Mb 6600GT...what would you choose?
does the 6600gt do AA as well or is it better?

GT as it is actually faster than the 9800 by between a few % and quite a bit in Open GL gams. Has shader model 3 which is a bonus and is generally a nice card As for AA it stil beats my 9800 pro thats flashed and clocked past XT speeds so yes it can do it as well

    ooohh. right o cheers
I also hear XFX 6600gt's now ship with a better gpu fan as earlier models kept going 'Gthunk-ping!' (breaking, in other words)

    here's the linky

Thats possible, I got a leadtek 6600gt and that runs at 39 C idle and doesn;t get much above 50 under load, have clocked it from 500/1.00 to 530/1.09 so far and no artifacts, from what i've seen in reviews it may go up to 560/1120 before you hit stability which is a pretty good OC

The 6600GT generally seems to beat the 9800 Pro, although it does start to struggle at higher resolutions and AA.

Im in the same position as shiato sort of ne way. After reading through things I cant make up my mind between the XFX and the leadtek. On that site where there were all them reviews the Leadek was quoted as having a 450Mhz memory. In CustomPC mag this month that figure is the same yet on the leadtek site the memory is quoted at 500Mhz. maybe they have very recently upped the speed of it to keep up with the competition. Personally i wouldnt bother with a 9800Pro. Most of them are around the same price as a 6600GT and its inherently older technology. The 6600GT should in theory last longer with the features it has built into it.

By the way that BFG is available at PC Word Component Center for 187 quid iirc.

xfx is cheaper and has updated heatsink fan and higher clock speed...fairly achademic choice. though if you're after quietness then sure go for the MSI - I'll let you know how quiet the XFX is when it arrives ok...

Edit: here's the updated XFX 6600GT AGP bumpf...
o Factory overclock: 1000MHz memory clock (standard reference 900MHz)
o Now shipping with an improved active fansink providing a 10-20% improvement in GPU cooling.
    o Dual DVI
o Excellent price per performance ratio
o 3 Full version games (Commandos 2, nascar and X2 Threat)

I bought one of these http://www.lowestonweb.com/Products/...4-DD3233828FC3
which is the full package minus the games and the pretty box. Its the full version leadtek yummy 6600gt and it flies. Thats without any serious clockin yet. For £115 inc pp can't be bad.....have 2!!! go sli.
