I cant say I use anything bar WHQL (sp?) drivers these days, but peeps with FX cards may have more incentive.

OK, may want to scrap downloading these as there is apparently noticeable image quality deterioration.

see the aquamark 3 benches that will be doing the rounds on the bigger sites tomorrow:

True but I think this is the driver version nVidia were keen to rush out to reviewers and other press when the early samples of HalfLife2 and its benchmarks were going to be released. It's not hard to understand why. nVidia dropped the ball with the FX5800 series, it was late due to early adoption of premature technology like 0.13mu and DDR-II, it also severely under-performed and was hideously overclocked in order to compete, another reason for its delay. FX5200, 5600 and 5900 were also rushed updates to FX5800 and although they improved the growing array of DX9 tests are showing some pretty serious flaws. I think the biggest problem is the decision to go for a 64bit and/or 128bit precision hybrid instead fot he much more logical ATI idea of a 96bit precision. If nVidia use 64bit precision they gain twice the registers, increase bandwidth and severely improve speed at the expense of image quality ... I think that's what you are seeing. It would be interesting to see 2 identical systems actually running side by side, one with DET44/45 and the other with DET51 ... ideally a third would be nice with an ATI solution using CAT3.2-3.7.

It's still early days and many things are not final releases ... but to those in the know it's all simply making too much sense. In terms of cheating, I think that's a bit strong but it is all very reminiscent of ATI's introduction of the Rad8500 (vs GF3) and esp the controversy over AF (esp tri filtering) methods.

"nVidia GeForce FX, the way it's meant to be played" ... slow and blurry?
