    Smile ATi vs. NVidia

I'm not sure if this will work as a poll (I'm new!). Please say/vote if you have an ATi card in your main gaming rig or an NVidia one.

I currently have a plain 9600. However, although I think ATi had the upper hand in the previous generation, I think nVidia has the advantage in the current generation (albeit by a smaller margin). Firstly, although the 6800 and X800 are fairly similar, I think the 6800 has a slight edge.

However, and arguably more importantly, nVidia has the 6600GT. It beats ATi's equivalent at that price, the 9800 Pro, in most tests, and only starts to struggle at higher resolutions and AA.

Overall, I think nVidia have won this round, but ATi aren't that far behind.

I have a 6800GT at the moment and its absolutely fantastic ( can't wait to get another in 2 months time )

6600GT's are great performance for the cash as well, and if I didn't get the 6800GT I would have got 2 6600GT's and SLI'ed them instead.

Ive always been an ATI person my self but with this generation getting a 6600GT was a slight no brainer really. It will be intersting to see what the next gen of cards have to offer.

i agree, this generation was extremely close, and i also agree Nvidia has the slight edge this round. The 6600GT and the 6800GT are two of the top cards IMO.

Ati missed the boat with the X800pro making it 12 pipes and are only just rectifying it with the X800XL.

After saying all this i must point out i have an X800pro Vivo which is flashed to 16pipes and running at XTPE day in, day out.

    So a slight contradiction there

my new rig has a 6600gt inside, simply cause its more recent (newer technology) than the 9800pro, often beats it in certain situations and is cheaper (sometimes)...so those are my reasons. more 'future proof'? maybe

damn, i had to vote nvidia as i have a 6800le (now nu / vanilla)

but if i could choose one i prefer > would be ati, as nvidia despite their good nview software, this gen is lagging (6800's) in dvd playback etc

I've recently bought a 6800 GT for the princely sum of £290 and have no regrets. I'm of the opinion, like many that nVidia is the king of this generation.

bought an x800 pro vivo, its now a x800 xt pe 16 pipe so it was great value for money as i had hl2 and hl mods in mind hence the ati decision as it performs better than the 6800's doom3 is the 6800's though, but doom 3 was pretty repetative and lost its appeal before the end so thats no loss to me

there are no ati-using linux gamers, only ones with nvidia, or who need to get nvidia.

I have a Sapphire 9600XT with a zalman block on it, which does a great job, i can get the core up by 100Mhz without any voltage increases and its still only about 50 degrees loaded.
