    X800XT Pci Express Temps?

    Hi,

I have a Sapphire X800XT Pci Express /w ViVo, and I am wondering what temperatures I should be seeing on this card.

I bought an Arctic Cooling Rev.4 ATI 4 (X800 Series) VGA Cooler for it, and fitted it.

I can get it to run at around 513/530 before games start to go nuts.

What temperature should I be seeing and what should I be able to clock this card at? Specially seeing as I thought this Arctic thing would make it better. In fact I believe I cannot overclock it any more than with the stock cooling on the card.

    Cheers

I don't have experience with O/Cing, so can't help there (sorry!)
But I have ordered the exact same card, and was wondering how it performs straight out of the box (without tweaking)? i.e. performance on HL2 would be a great insight into what to expect!

Sorry again to reply with a question!

Well I got an MSI X800XT PCI-E in a Dell 5000, std cooling only gets me 515/525 ish, temps right now reported by ATI tool says 46 when idle.

Very much luck of the draw as far as overclocking these I think, I was hoping for much more after reading a few reviews some were getting 600 on memory and more, with almost every review I saw saying XTPE speeds were achievable.

Glad I bought it 2nd hand and not new TBH

I bought Half Life 2 last week and to be honest its a bit slow with only a P4 2.8 and 512 meg of ram, hoping an upgrade to 1 gig of ram will help shortly or I will have to install it on my Shuttle sytem [see sig]

It performs very well indeed in HL2. I havent checked the FPS since I last played HL2. But when I played it, at stock clock settings, I ran it at 1600x1200 with all ingame settings at max including AA and AF to max, and it ran flawless in my opinion.

Now I very picky when it comes to FPS and anything under about 40 I can usually notice, so it would of been more than 40 I am pretty sure.

I would imagine others in the forum could give you better info, because I havent played HL2 for ages, but just checking some of the reviews around the net i'd imagine you'd find HL2 runs around 60fps with my spec comp.

Ps: I have the card clocked at 525 core, and 545 memory now and it is nice and stable, and me proc (P4 Prescott 3.4 clocked at 3.7ghz). Could not be happier with the system

    Ahh, cheers for the info.
I'm about to put together an A64 3200+ with the X800XT, so i will see how they pair up before i consider entering the crazy world of overclocking.

so how did you magically stabilise your clocks and then better them ?

those clocks would make me a little happier if I could achieve similar

if you want really cool and quiet vga cooling get this Zalman HP80D-HP Passive heatsink, I got this with the 90mm fan bracket and it dropped the stock speed temp by almost 20C on my 9600XT, and its allowed me to push the core up by nearly 100Mhz, I need to change the ramsinks as they are squared and my video card uses normal rectangle ram chips, so when i do that i'll get over 20Mhz (40Mhz) ram overclocking that im getting atm, shes doing sweet with any current game atm..
