    Understanding Mobile Graphics?

Its very hard to get 'accurate' information on mobile graphics, not only on how they compare to each other, but how they compare to desktop units, of course your not going to get desktop cards in laptops, but it would be good to know what they compare too, now with the new ranges of laptops coming out with mobile gfx units on I would like to ask if anyone has any 'real' experence with them, how they compare to each other, and how they compare to desktop, the following at the units I would be interested in

    ATI x600 64mb
    ATI x600 128mb
    ATI 9700 64mb
    ATI 9700 128mb
    ATI x700 64mb

This would come with an PM 1.8GHz & 512mb Ram, from my understaind reading what i have read so far, is the 9700 and x600 are very simlar in performance, these are the 2 I'm most interested in because i have an option of mobiles with both of them, 128mb's, while comparing to desktop these 2 compare with the 9600..

Thanks for any help, and if anyone has any other suggestions with laptops feel free to give some input, I've narrowed it down to ACER & Fujistu Siemens.

i dont know a great deal about laptop graphics, but i do know that ive used the 9700pro 64mb chip before and wasnt overly impressed, i think thats probably due to the 64mb tho? i think 128mb would be a much safer bet

I have a mobility 9800 and I get around 6600 stock in 3dmark03 and 2660 3dmark05. If I crank the hertzes I get around 3800 in 3dmark05. The card has 256 mb of memory and the darn thing is pretty powerful. Its a very nice piece of hardware. Though I wish now I can get my hands on the DDr3 model for the Nvidia 6800 Go.

I personally think mobile graphics are underestimated. I have a 1.7ghz Pentium M Banias, 333mhz 1gig PC2700, and an ATi M10 9600 Pro Turbo (128mb). I can run Half Life 2 at 1920x1200 with nearly all settings up high (basically all settings cept anistropic filtering).

    It works like a dream.

I'd say go for the 128mb x700 if you can find it. The Acer Travelmate 8104 is a great laptop and I'm sure it's been mentioned on the hexus homepage.

If you really are on a budget and can't afford that, then I suggest you find something with 128mb ram esp if you wanna play games like hl2 since they perform better with more memory.
    Acer Travelmate 8104WMLi
    P-M 2.0 Ghz
    2Gb DDR533 Corsair RAM
    100Gb 7200rpm Seagtae HD
    128Mb ATi x700 Mobility
