    X800 XT Platinum weird problem

    Hi

Just got a PowerColor X800 XT PE and its absolutely stunning.
But, every now and then during game play the screen goes blank for 2-3 seconds, I assumed it was my power supply and quickly ordered a 500W
but the issue still happens, I have reinstalled windows etc.

    CPU: P4 2.8
    Motherboard: Asus P4C800-E
    Ram: 512Mb
    Monitor: Syncmaster 213T

I have tried taking every non essential component out to see if its still a power issue, no joy.
Also reading the small print on the PSU it says max output 292W how is that?? Have I been conned, the PSU was quite cheap.

Could it be the monitor, its a 21inch flat screen?

Please help, I really dont want to send this card back and be stuck with my cruddy Geforce fx5600

    Thanks for any help..

    is the psu a qtec?
    which one did you get?
Have you got the cable connected to the card? make sure its not loose and check the pins for burn marks incase it was arcing...

What do you mean goes blank..? does the game come back afterwards?

Try turinging off VPU recover.. it might be crashing then recovering.. turn it off and note if it is different when it happens?

Also what temps are you getting on the gpu?

    Hi, thanks for the suggestions

PSU, its a MAGNA, very OEM looking. MAGNA Dual Fans 500W Black, but then in small print on the side it says max output: 292W !!!!!!

The screen acutally turns off similar to if you unplug the VGA cable, but then comes back after 2secs (I can still hear game, comp is responding fine)

Checked all connections very tight and no burn marks, card is seated firmly

Yea, I thought it might be the VPU recover so I tried running card with no overdrive and VPU recover turned off, but it didnt help.

I am not running the gpu that hot (around 35c), its true it happens more in games but it has happened in windows just browsing the internet!

I seem to have fixed this problem, for now. I used ATItool to overclock the card to a higher core/mem speed, somehow the problem is now gone, I am thinking of returning the card as this suggests to me that the problem is with the card itself.
