    Exclamation X800 XL AGP < X700 PRO

Yo, I know everyone is excited about the new X800 series coming to the AGP platform. But after going through ATI's website and using the product comparison http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/ between the:

    X800 XL AGP
    X800 XL PCI-e
    X700 PRO PCI-e

It seems as though the X800 XL AGP (based on the specifications), will perform somewhere betweent the X800 XL PCI-e and the X700 PRO PCI-e, but the performance will be closer to the X700 PRO than the X800 PCI-e.

I am just making these conclusions off of what I see, it maybe different when test are actually ran and the specs are finalized.

    Any thoughts?

Why do you think that the X800XL will be that slow? The X800XL has 16 pipelines (to my knowledge), faster memory and a marginally slower core, so it would seem to me to be much faster.

Someone made a mistake with that comparison chart. The x800xl AGP has been tested by a Chinese website and they found it to perform exactly the same as the x800xl PCI-E version: (LINK).

Okay I saw the review, like I said in my first post I wasn't sure and wanted to see some testing and I have saw it. Looks like everything is fine, and I guess those specs on ATI's comparison site is wrong.

Sorry, but I have tried that comparison a couple of times (from the link you supplied) and it seems to be telling me what I already knew...

...that the technical specs for both X800XL products are very similar

How did you choose to compare ?

For me, it lists both of the XL products together - which is the way that it should be

The UK online stores are quoting the 128MB X700 Pro from £75 +vat upwards - with the average settling around £90 +vat

You can get 256MB versions around the £100-£110 +vat mark

That puts these products in the same space as the 6600 standard

That is pretty competitive stuff !

By comparison, the performance on an X800XL part will be significantly higher - somewhere around the level of a 6800GT

For most people, the X700 Pro and X800XL would not be in the same price-space

With standard 15-17" levels of TFT resolution, you will find the X700 and 6600 cards very playable

However, if you can get an X800XL - then your gaming experience will be operating on a completely different level

Andrzej, you can get a 128MB XFX GeForce 6600 for £78 inc VAT from Scan, and a BFGTech 6600 GT OC for £139.99 inc from PCWCC for reference purposes...

    XFX GeForce 6600-Std 128MB:

    BFGTech 6600 GT OC:

ATI updated the Comparision page (Tuesday, March 08, 2005 1:56:14 PM), if you had seen it before that date they had too choices for the X800 XL

    X800 XL
    X800 XL PCI 256MB

Now it currently is fixed and the X800 XL represents both the PCI-e and AGP versions.

    neither

I've got a trek to Manchester tomorrow starting before 8am, I fly at 12:50 though. I'm not risking the later trains, as there is no garauntee that they'll get to the airport in time for the flight.

I think we've strayed quite a way from the original topic, bit like the waz huh?

The X800XL is a complete bargain for the price. It can be had for around £199. Classic ATI super-buy

    i'm ordering one now!
