    6800gt in shuttle SB61G2R

Hey guys first post here I was just wondering if a 6800GT agp 8x card would work in my shuttle with only its 220w power supply.

heres a link to the actual shuttle

    Also I have a Intel 2.8HT
    1 Gig PC3200

I was just wondering what alternative issues I have with the power supply I know shuttle sells an alternative but its only 250w. Thanks for your time.

Depends what it's 12V line amperage is. You really want at least 18A if you're going to stick a 6800GT in there along with a P4, the unit should have a sticker on it with it's line ratings

    Hi there

I'm running a slightly different configuration but everything's running fine: Shuttle Reflexion, P4 3.2Ghz, 512MB RAM, MSI GeForce 6800, Audigy Soundcard, WiFi, DVD, 8-in-1 card reader all run fine off the 220W. That said, I wouldn't like to add anything else to it (indeed nothing would likely fit ), so I can't guarantee the GT version of the videocard would work.

As you say Shuttle do sell a 250W PSU so you may like to buy that and a 6800GT, given the latter now retail for around £200 from some online stores, far cheaper than they used to be.

    Kind Regards

It's not down to wattage rating, it's down to the quality of your rails. Shuttle know that power consumption is an issue so their PSU's are of high quality. Usually they can handle those cards just fine. My SN25P has an X800XL in it, although i think i've got a 250Watt PSU in this.

An overloaded psu will work for a period, but it can be dangerous. Jonty I would really check what the 12V rating is on that psu, shuttle do tend to have a higher amperage relative to their wattage than most psu's because they know pretty much whats going in the system and what it needs, but if that 12V line is less than 15A then it's too low, and preferably you want more like 18A to be running two power hungry components like a P4 and 6800GT

    Hi GrahamGarside

It is literally maxed out on all the rails, but it's been running fine for well over a year now. As I say, I wouldn't like to add anything else to it, but as has been said Shuttle PSUs are very robust despite their overall rating. That said, it does worry me a little bit, so perhaps if I ever saw a 250W PSU cheap I would invest in one

    Kind Regards

    Hiya, I have a SB75G2 with a 3.2ghz Northwood, and a 6800GT handles just fine.
