    Question Radeon 9800 Pro tuning...

    Hi ppl,

Okay I have the following rig atm:

    P4 2.4b@2.8
    Abit BE7-RAID MB
    2 x 256MB Corsair PC3500 Cas 2 DDR-SDRam
    2 x WD 120GB 8Mb Cache in RAID 0
    SB Audigy
    Generic Network Card
    etc etc

Basically, I swapped my GF4 ti4200 64MB for a nice new Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB, my Geforce did 11,800 in 3D Mark 2001 SE and the Radeon only 16K.

In Smartgart, AGP 4x is running with fast writes on.

I was expecting roughly 18-19K from that card or does that seem unrealistic?

16k sounds about right to me.

nah he has a pro, what clocks are they at? 380/340 aint it?

    from 276/270 @ 14k to 16.5k @ 330/313.5 .. and thats on a 9700np
16k woud be bout right on a 9800np.. but that might just b ur cpu limiting u, doubt having 4xagp makes much differnce for ya atm..
a pro should get 17.5k with ur setup

I wouldn't worry too much as anything over 12000 is largely irrelevant anyway, 3Dmark2001 wasn't designed to push/test these modern cards which excel with tremendous amounts of detail and also offer exceptional AA+AF. Try benching the 4200 with 2xAA+4xAF and then 4xAA+8xAF ... then try the Rad with these and see it fly! For a more precise reflection of your card's perf look at more modern stuff like 3Dmark2003 or modern games. NOTHING currently can truly test your card, so stick on some AA+AF, up the res and max out the details ... then enjoy.

Yeah the clocks are 380/340, ive not tried overclocking but seem to get the same scores (roughly) in both win me and xp.

The 11800 3d marks of the gf4 ti4200 were good for my setup, I thought I'd get much higher.

I'd be interested to hear what other intel P4 (2.4Ghz upwards) users got with their Radeon 9800 Pro's.
