Nah.... not too bothered about overclocking.... currently have a gefore2 so it will be a big leap to a non-overclocked 6600GT anyway ???

More worried about heat as my case is not the best.... unless I decide to change the case as well.... here goes.... loosen my wallet even more...

    Help....

If heat is an issue then both cards should give off the same ammount of heat, just in different ways. Get the quieter of the 2

yea.. heat output would be roughly the same.. But personally I would get the 6600GT extreme edition (just in case I find a game that cant hit satisfactory frame rates and I dont have enough juice to shell out a new gfx).. its really not that much more noisier anyways..

I have the Gigabyte 6600GT installed in my MCE machine at home; as I'm a very casual gamer, the main reason I bought it for was silence and Pure Video support.

Yes it does get hot but if you have a well-vented system this isn't an issue and I've had no stability problems with an Intel m/b & CPU.

    silent pipe v'hot

I recently sold 2 gigabyte silent pipe cards on ebay. Reason. far too hot in my case. Had to install an extra fan to keep the temp down because I was getting corruption in games when using SLi.

The performance is pretty good but 2 of those aint the best idea onless you have excellent cooling. They can get up 85 c under full load each!!!!

I agree, I don't have an MCE setup, but I do have the Gigabyte 6600GT Silent Pipe(TurboForce Edition), and I've had no problems with it. I think it has the faster memory on there ( I think 1.2ns refresh), so it comes out of the box OC 500/1120. I've yet to use the VIVO on that thing, and that was one of the reasons I bought it ....

The site claims that it can get a 8,400 score off of 3DMark03, I got 8,460 out the box. I installed water cool on my CPU and I reached a score of.... 8,840.... I can blaze thru HL-2 and Far Cry with no problems....

Ummm, if you want quiet, then the silentpipe is quiet.

they will produce the same heat energy that will need to find a way out of the case.

Stability. Well I can't comment on the 6600GT EE but the x800xl silentpipe is very nice and stable. the ordinary leadtek 6600gt I also have has been stable too. (Not over clocked either)

you can of course add a fan to the heatpipe version if you need/want. either directing it onto the heatsink or removing the heatsink and adding an 3rd party fan.

The point is not how much heat energy is generated its whats done with it. The heatpipe card will just transfer the heat to its fins while the card with the fan will send the heat to similair smaller fans before blowing cold air across them. Unless you have a great case with excellent air flow I wouldn't go near a heatsink card. Cards with fans aren't generally that noisy.

Reading the comments for u guys... I reckon the Leadtek card is looking the best for me. I've read a few reviews and it seems to run cool and not too noisy (not as quiet as the Gigabyte obviously)..

Now just gotta find the cheapest place to get the LeadTek 6600GT Extreme Edition from ???

I would go for the new x800GTs just out, cheaper and better than a 6600GT. They also run quieter, cooler and drain less power.
