    Flashing a X800GTO to 16 pipelines

Ive just bought a Connect3d x800GTO which i will be sitting in a new system at christmas (rest of system in sig). Ive read that these can be flashed to 16 pipelines allowing better performance, but unlike the Sapphire GTO2, these are not a 100% non fail rate.

What are the chances of it failing to flash, and what are the consequences?
I bought it from Ebuyer which doesnt seem to have many failing on the tech power up guide.

    I beleive u mean Connect3D, not creative3d

I bought the same card from Scan. I tried once to flash it to 16 pipes, but it just didnt work. It wasn't like it went up to 50% and then stopped, it just reefused to start the flash.

I intend to try again when I have more time.

    Yeah, i meant connect3d.

So from what youve said, the card failing to flash doesnt damage the card? Itll just continue to work as before?

I've read about some difficulty with cards not working properly AFTER being flashed (which presumably must have flashed correctly), but that they then proceeded to work well on a different motherboard. If it doesnt work initially, don't panic.

if u can get a copy of the original cards bios or whatever u can put a standard PCI card in and then flash the x800gto back to its normal settings if anything goes wrong

The thing is, i dont have a PCI card incase things did go wrong, could easily get a hold of original BIOS though.

I would think so, as thats the core the GTO2 uses which has a 100% success at flashing it.

Dont think you can flash it to 16 pipelines. Could still overclock it quite nicely though.

Sapphire GTO2 uses a guaranteed R480 core, while Connect3D uses only R423 which has a high chance but not guaranteed.

    I don't think mine can be soft-modded

Look at this section of the techpowerup guide...

    http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...ng/vidcard/127

Mine does not have Fs in this section of ATI Tool, I got a B, and an E

Give it a try to see if youre willing.

Pitty though, 16pipelines over 12 seems to give a large inprovement.
