    X1800XL owners... Quick question.

Erm just bought one of these puppies (the HIS version) and it seems to be running rather warm... For example when I run ATI tool it tries to increase the speed of the GPU / Memory and actually starts underclocking it!!! Case is reasonably ventilated (1 x 120mm CPU fan + 1 x 120mm Case fan + PSU fans etc). Opinions please...!

Would I be best off watercooling the sucker? I was looking at the Alphacool NexXxos GPU cooler http://www.alphacool.de/xt/product_i...cPath=5_18_291 and a matching set of Alphacool kit (120mm Rad, DC pump and Res. and maybe the SLI northbridge block to replace the noisy cooler on my DFI NF4 Ultra...)

No need to water cool it.

ATI-Tool is flakey at best, don't trust it, espeically on X1800, and X1900's.

You could use rivatuner to keep the fan speed set at a certain %, and you can read the temps from the graph, lot easier than ATI-tool, and accurate.

Or you could buy an aftermarket cooler. While the Zalman GPU cooler is crap for X1800XT's, it's pretty good for the XL because of it's lower clocks/volts and heat.

    Cheers,

I had already bought an aerocool VM-102... But I didn't think it was going to fit so hadn't bothered to do anything with it until last night... Waste of time tbh The damn thing fits on the card OK but it doesn't fasten down well and as a consequence the entire cooler is able to rock back n forth on the GPU core!!! Had to refit the original cooler for now...

May well look at the zalman (prolly the fatality version as it comes with the heatsinks etc as well), though I am still tempted to cool the northbridge n GPU with an Alphacool setup. Just dont think it is worth it for the price tho.

The fataility just has an LED, and louder fan.

The nomral version comes with sinks as well.

Have you tryed upping the fan speed yet?

Upping what fan speed? I assume you mean the fan on the the stock heatsink? If so then the answer would be no lol
