    HDCP compatible 20" monitors?

Today.. I did a *stupid* thing.. I washed my 17" Sony Trinitron CRT screen with a damp jay cloth which had a bit of washing up liquid on....
In a matter of seconds the anti-reflective silicon coating started to disappear leaving a horrible refractive light effect.

Yes.. I hate myself right now ... but i have had this monitor for over 6 years (Xmas present in '99).
I've started to look around for a flat screen that will give me the same flawless image quality that my trusty Sony CRT did, plus will be in the 19" to 20" range, have a response time of 12ms or less.. for around £450 and have HDCP for Windows Vista.

With that in mind, which monitors would you guys suggest?

I've been looking at much the same thing for quite a while now. I can be of some help if you're looking for a widescreen panel, not so much if you're going for standard aspect !

I think the majority of HDCP compliant panels on the market at the mo are of the widescreen variety though.

I'm a bit of a CRT die hard too but I think LCD technology is at the point now where I'll be happy

Just to be akward, the one I've chosen doesn't support HDCP (Not many UK models really do at the mo). It's the NEC LCD20WGX2. Typically the US version has HDCP, PIP, TV tuner, foot massager, toaster, etc. and the UK version has nowt. (I may have exaggerated the US models features slightly)

The new Dell 07 wide boys will be with us soon, and will be HDCP compliant, but initial gossip about them doesn't seem that exciting. Will probably be worth a look though.

What are you planning on using the screen for ? Any particular purpose or a bit of everything ?

    Best of luck !

Well for gaming, 3D work and maybe watching dvds etc... I'm not scared of spending upto £500 if called for! Yea my CRT gave flawless image quality for years so i'm looking for this or maybe more..

Yup, the Dell is a quality screen and one which might not be around for too much longer depending how they phase in the replacement. Don't think it has HDCP compliance though ?

The Viewsonics you mention, I take it they're the 1912/2012 ? You can get a good look at them if you have an evesham showroom nearby ! I'm very wary of magazine reviews but the consensus seems to be as they're a TN panel that they're good value but not quite up to the quality of the Dell. They have a quick response time and are good for DVD watching though. There's similar quality offerings from Acer and Belinea at that price point. As I said though, maybe not 2005FPW quality !

I think the market is gonna be swamped by 19/20" wide panels this year. Elsewhere on Hexus you can see pics of the new Samsungs which I'm sure will be joined by models from most of the other manufacturers this year.

Have a look at www.widescreengamingforum.com if you haven't already.

    Cheers !
