    7900GT Power Connector

    Hey All,

Been debating on whether to upgrade my aging 6600GT to something newer and sweeter (or even at all, and wait a bit longer - but thats another story...) and I seemed to have settled on the XFX 7900GT that hopefully will come back into stock.

The pricepoint seems pretty decent and even with Vista/DX10 coming out, I'm sure that it will be able to last until then. However, I do have one question - pretty much all the PCie cards require a power connector from the PSU.

On older cards, this used to be molex, but on the newer ones, they are 6-pin ones I believe. At the moment, while i am weighing up whether to splash a ton on a seasonic PSU, I am stuck with a fairly generic PSU, which doesnt have the 6-pin connector.

My question is: Do most newer cards these days come with some sort of adaptor? A mloex to 6-pin or something. If I decided to go for this card, then i would like to be able to run it without definitely having to upgrade my PSU also...

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers JP

Im almost 100% sure that you will receive the molex to 6pin adapter.

I honestly can't remember if my 7800GTX came with one or not, the box is in the garage, I'm ill and I don't feel like going out and rummaging through it

However, you won't regret buying a high-end PSU when your generic one dies and might take something else with it Its definately worth buying The Seasonic range is a good choice, I went for a Tagan.

However, even if your card does not come with a PCI-E/6-pin connection, you can pick adaptors up very cheaply:

    Hope this helps

@Tobeman - thanks for that link, little pieces of kit like that are tough to search for as i never really know what to search for them as! Also - i think that i need to definitely get a good PSU, the 600w Seasonic is probably a component that will last over a few more setups...

Most cards come with the 6 pin to molex connector.
