    Best Graphics card for me?

My rig atm is on the left.

I want a GPU that can handle most of the latest games smoothly and without toning down the graphics... but it has to be AGP. I have a 450W X-Power PSU.

    My budget is about £280 - £330.

Sorry if it's a bit basic, I'm not too good with computer specs.

If you need any other info just post.

Hmm seeing as the CPU and rest of the PC isn't to hot, id either get a nice X850XT PE for 150quid from OCUK, or go for the 7800GS.

This is a £156 inc vat X800 GTO from Crucial direct.

And this is a 6600 GT from Scan at £117 inc vat

Frankly.....both will make you smile and your wallet will thank you in 12 months when you want an all new system with PCI Express

    the 6600 GT frankly wins

A reasonable card for your setup would be 6800GS

I'm an ATi fan boy but do not get the X850.. no SM3.0 support so no nice features from games that are badly coded (Oblivion- HDR, Farcry-HDR, etc.).
Either go for the 7800GS or wait for a possible ATi X1k AGP variant.

I say don't worry about SM3.0 (shader model 3.0) your system won't be powerful enough to utilise it at a decent framerate anyway. I would seriously consider:

    Sapphire ATI Radeon X700 256MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (11061-01-20) (GX-091-SP)
Inject a shot of adrenaline into your PC with the power of the RADEON X700, as it flexes its computational muscle, and unleashes its High-Definition clarity with features such as SMARTSHADER™ HD, SMOOTHVISION™ HD and ATI's revolutionary 3Dc™ image enhancement technology complemented by 256MB of onboard memory. Enjoy the best but pay less with Sapphires RADEON X700!

    - ATI Radeon X700 GPU running at 400MHz
    - 256MB DDR memory running at 500MHz
    - 128-bit memory interface
    - 8 pixel pipelines
    - Six programmable vertex shader pipelines

    Price: £78.67 Including VAT

    From overclockers....this card is on par with a 6600GT and has 256Mb memory...compared to the 6600GT's 128Mb

It's £12 more than the scan version, but has double the memory, this is what i'd go for in your position

I'd say definately go for a card that has SM3.0 - Oblivion really shows how well it can work for example.

For that budget you can get the best that's out there - the 7800gs Bliss from gainward - this is an awesome card - 20 pipes, 512mb RAM. I've seen it in action and it blew me away.

But for a more reasonable purchase, I'd recommend just getting a 6800GS - it'll play most things (including Oblivion) pretty well.

Personally? I'd sell my soul, and anything else I have lying around to switch to PCI-E.

I was about to suggest a Sapphire X800 GTO2, which are easily unlocked and overclocked to X850 speeds, then realised its PCI-E

You've got the budget for it, get the 7800 GS

I don't think you will see the full potential of a 7800 as your CPU, chipset etc will be limiting game performance. I'd recommend that you buy a 6600GT or 6800 and put the spare money towards a new machine (or at least new mobo & CPU) in future.

The XFX cards from Scan are recommended - I have a 6600GT (AGP) myself.

Don't bother with worrying about SM3.0 - your system won't be very happy trying to run that kind of stuff anyway.

If I was in your position I would put that money towards buying a PCI-E based system, or if you really have to, buy something like an X850 and put the rest towards an upgrade later.

Bottom line, don't spend a lot on an AGP card.
