Did you read my thread properly? If you did you would have noticed that i said the TFT was for someone else, not me! The Acer went back as it was faulty, half the text on the screen was blurred. The 19" TFT was indeed too big for me, that is why i have a 17" Viewsonic myself. The first 17" TFT i had was terrible! Really bad backlight bleed, so now you have the reasons why i 'Dunked' as you put it, the TFT's!

Happy now that i have explained that for you?

gee.. why the frustration all the sudden.. it was just a simple question.. If you're so easily spiffed then I'll keep quiet.

my fault for not reading your last post, guess I never bothered to read the rest of the thread as I only read your first post.

FYI, the word dunked can be used as 'get rid of'... its a valid expression, hope you wont be so picky on wording next time.

Can anyone suggest ANY 17" or 19" TFTs?

I am considering moving away from my iiyama VMPRO 454A which does 1600X1200 as what i use it daily. i dont think i can stretch to a tft capable of such resolutions though, and i only have a geforce 7800GT so cant have one that has too high a native resolution, so im a bit confused!

any ideas what i should be considering?!

    thanks in advance!

Pretty much all 17" and 19" TFTs have a native resolution of 1280 * 1024, Iiyama do some 19"s that will do 1600 * 1200 but they're 1280 * 1024 native panels so I'm not exactly sure how they manage that, interpolation?

Viewsonic VP930 is the daddy as 19" screens go, its an MVA screen so its not as fast as some screens (8 ms GTG) but its fast enough and you get good viewing angles, no twinkling in videos and very good contrast ratio (1000:1). I've just got a Dell 1905FP which is based around the same panel (as is the newest version of the Belinea 101920 and the Dell 1906FP). IPS or MVA screens are the type to go for if you're into films or colour reproduction is important to you (graphic designer / artist). The Samsung 970p is similar in specs but it has that iMac look to it.

If colour reproduction and video isnt' important to you, go for a TN panel, pretty much anything with a response time of less than 8ms is TN (with the exception of the 970p). TN panels don't have so good viewing angles, they only do 6 bit colour so they have to dither but they are that bit faster than MVA. There are loads of fast TN panels about, e.g. Viewsonic VX922 (2ms) VX924 (4ms), and Hyundai Q90U (3ms) those are fast and good for gaming but expensive. At the cheaper end of the market the 19" Hyundai L90D+ gets fairly good reviews for gaming (8ms).

There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in the 17" panel part of the market, there aren't so many monitors of that size available and sites tend to concentrate on reviewing the bigger screens. I'm sure that for each of the 19" screens there is a 17" equivilient but I'm really not familiar with that end of the market.

Tomshardware has a pretty good review (in fact several reviews) of 19" screens

    Well, i got the dell.

One thing, are new TFTs much brighter than old ones? This seems very bright! I've got it on about 45% at the moment and still seems quite bright.

Love being able to swivel it on its side!
