    Hi rainbow,

I seem to have crept up to 19" with the two I had narrowed it down too, I should just a say get away with 19" on my desk (just won't be able to get at the window at all).

I'm leaning more towards the 19" Samsung as it appears to be hight adjustable, pivots and swivels - the rest of the spec seems very similar to the 19" Viewsonic.

I've narrowed it down to that or the Samsung SM940BF (http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx...vigationKey=0).

Both look to be very similar in spec.

I've started to consider more the idea of moving to a widescreen display now, wish I could just make my mind up...

Currently looking at the Samsung SM244T (http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/m...24brbbsedc.asp)

The review I have seen rated this screen very highly.

I was just looking at the Dell's, the Dell 2407WFP to be specific.

The only thing that put me off the Dell is the number of people with banding issues.

It does look to be a very nice monitor, just a tad larger than I initially set out for but would mean I can play my 360 on a reasonable sized screen too when I can't get to the TV downstairs for the other half hogging it.

    new LCD?

I have a dual desktop with some ViewSonic VX922 LCD 19". Now after a couple of months, I find that 19" is small!!! I cannot stand going to school and using the 17" If you want a true gaming experience you need at lease a 19" or bigger. BUT... yes there is a but. Going with a widescreen is good for movie, but sucks for games. Many games and O.S. are not compatible with Widescreens, they are just going to stretch the image which could change your gaming experience.

These days when buying a new LCD, you should get one with a DVI output, this because newer graphic card have DVI outputs...

A good monitor has a good contrast, good response time, DVI outputs, good resolution and a nice size.

IMO not true - just have a look at the list over at www.widescreegamingforum.com to see what can be used in WS - most are simple ini tweaks. Anything on the D3 engine, UT engine, Source engine and the one used in Oblivion can handle WS - and apart from the first 2, its all done natively. And when you DO game in WS, you dont go back...

I too was worried about the stretching and losing of aspect ratio, but there are ways round it - look on the aforementioned site forums for many fixes. Also, if you can afford a decent WS DVI monitor, then more that likely, you can get fixed aspect scaling on the TFT (which i know is available in Nvidia drivers, but not Ati) where even at low 4:3 resolutions, it will scale up - in correct proportions - just leave bands on the left and right.

Unfortunately, I couldnt afford a top of the range TFT, and i was worried that i would have to play stretched games - but gone through half life2 again, many source mods, oblivion, need for speed MW and also oblivion - not the oldest set of games, but all fully widescreen and perfectly proportioned...

...Try a widescreen - they arent too expensive!!!

    Hi,

I've been put off the Dell 2407WFP a bit due to the large number of users having banding issues, even with the A02 revision people are still seeing the banding. It also has a fairly high response time.

From what I have read the banding seems to affect DVI more than anything which is what I planned to use.

I'll be fitting a 7950GX2 in my new system when the parts are shipped, as this can't handle 2 monitors if multi gpu mode (or something like that, can't remember now) I started to wonder if just getting the one 24" widescreen was a better option.

However I do like the Samsung SM940BF 19" monitor which has a slightly better contrast ratio to the Viewsonic VX922 19", both have a 2ms response time for G to G.

I'm also currently looking at the Samsung SM940BF 19" monitor for when I get round to a new build because of reviews I've read and I've noticed ebuyer have this week reduced it's price to £223.24.

I like the look of the Samsung SM244T after reading the excellent reviews on it but the price is way out of my league, my PC's build budget would end up going to this one monitor. One thing that has confused me is the monitor speed which is spec'd at 16ms, reviews have said this monitor is good for movies, games etc.. but I've read buyer review on certain monitors where people have experiences ghosting on 8ms monitors, so would you experience worst ghosting on this 16ms monitor.

    Hi Lakeuk,

I checked eBuyer the other day and that did have it down to £205, if only I had ordered in the space of 30 minutes looking at other stuff it had gone up to £223. Still cheapest I have found it.
