    9800pro beter than FX5600XT ?

got a friend (well 2 actually) with a FX5600XT card, me and a friend have 9800 pro's from old builds and dont know if there going to be better for them ?

basically if there better we will swop them as we would only be using them for none gaming PC's as there all AGP.

this will tide them over until they can make the jump to PCI-E kit

    thanks in advance

yeh i have been picking through google, he says he was 800x600 with low settings for BF2, and i had 1280x960 with medium settings on a simular setup, so he already asked for it.

The 9800pro is MUCH better than the 5600XT. The Pro is a suped-up version of the 9800 - a great card originally anyway. The 5600XT is a disabled version of the 5600 - a not great card to begin with anyway!

A good site for camparing cards is:

    http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88

In which if we compare Mtexels/sec - as far as I can work out, the raw processing power of the card, all things considered like number of pipelines etc. (probably wrong on the definition!), the 9800pro is capable of 3040, whereas the 5600XT is capable of 1000 ie less than a third the processing. As they are both dx9 parts (ie pixel shader 2 etc) you're not loosing any piccy quality either.

How hum, there are people using 9800pro's for non-gaming rigs and here's me stuck with my Radeon 9550 for FEAR >;o)

For reference, the 5600XT is directly comparable to a geforce 5200, or Radeon 9550 ie they all have 1000 Mtexels/sec processing. When you consider the geforce 2pro had 1600, albeit @ DX7 quality (ie no pixel shading), these aren't the worlds most powerful processors! One day I'll get a new one!

I have a 9800 Pro and It'll play any of the latest most demanding games at medium or better settings
I was planning on upgrading it earlier this year but it seems that you have to spend £180-£200 on a card to get a worthwile performance increase. Its still faster than most if not all £100 cards thses days
