Exclamation Are the scores of my x1900xt right?

    Hello all
Just bought and installed a x1900xt and I am quite pleased with the perfomance, but not sure if it shoul be better.
In 3D Mark 2003 with default settings I get a score of 16583
My setup is as follows -

    Processor - Athlon64 3500
    Mobo - MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
Ram - 1Gb*2 Kingston in dual-channel (Dont know the specific timings)
    GFX - x1900xt (Club 3D) (Cat 6.7 drivers)
PSU - Hyper 580w (Modular one)

Is this normal, or is it under performing?

    Cheers for any help

I remember I got 17000ish with my x1800xt so I'd say it's bit low for x1900xt. I think your score should be around 20000 or even more. Maybe your cpu bottlenecking? Overclock your 3500+ to 2.6GHz range and I think you'll see a big increase in score.

You're not seeing the real power of x1900xt yet. That card should go way past 10K in 3dmark05. 8974 is more like x1800xt score. I'd say your cpu bottlenecking big time.

You mentioned o/c the CPU by 400Mhz, what extra cooling would be required over stock?
Know any good guides, I have never touched o/c before

You probably won't need any extra cooling. Your 3500+ is likely to hit 2.5-2.6G without any problems with stock cooler. If you aim more than that you may need better HSF though. There is nice guide here(http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=364223) so read carefully. You may find things confusing at first, but once you understand basics things get easier. Also look here(http://www.cpudatabase.com/index.cfm?action=search) for cpu database. Just search for 3500+ and you know how much people are getting at which voltage. Basically aim for highest cpu frequency while maintaining HT and Memory clock, I don't know MSI board well enough so I can't tell you exactly which settings need adjusting but it's much easier than it sounds so don't worry. But be very careful not to overclock other components, you may have to lock pci/pci-e/sata clock in order to do so. Also once you've found a good setting do a reliability test by running software called prime95 and do a toture test for 12-24 hours. But if you are not confident enough, getting better CPU is another option as 939 are getting cheaper and cheaper these days. You can get decent dual cores at around 150 pounds. Anyway, good luck.

A little tip here, stop using 3dMark as they are just synthetic benchmarks that mean diddly squat. You run 3d Mark get a high score, come play doom 3 and your card struggles, why is this, possibly because 3D mark is not a real world test, its just a set of animations and renditions to work the cpu and gpu.

If you want real results, get the latest games and run the stress test demo's and there you have a real test. 3DMark is a waste of time.

NO, as far as I know there's no timedemo in oblivion. I play it too and I usually play very smoothly at 1280x1024 in ultra high setting....BUT with reduced grass density and medium texture.lol. There are some nice threads about optimizing performance in oblivion at official forum(http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/)Just search for keyword optimize or something and you get tons of hits. Lads over there are usually very helpful so if you have any problems just ask there. Also look here for nice ini tweak guide.(http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_8.html)
