    ASRock Dual 939 + 2 GFX Cards + 3 TFTs = Bliss?

OK, so I've currently got a Dual939 motherboard which has AGP and PCI Express slots for upgradability. I've got a 6800LE in the AGP slot at the moment and I'm hoping to upgrade to an x1950xt soon. Then I'll have my two 17" tfts on the 6800LE and the 19" on the x1950xt.

Will this work? I'm especially concerned as I'll have both nVidia and ATi cards in at once. Also, will games work as usual on the 19" tft?

    Cheers,

    pr0p

It's a nightmare to get Nvidia drivers playing at the same time as ATI's.

One of the mad ones at Hexus got it working a while back, but really, it's probably not worth the effort

For your particular config, pr0p, I'd advise against it. You want the ATI board to be the primary 3D accelerator, which NVIDIA's drivers won't like. The only way to make the configuration work is if the NV board is the primary, but then the way most games are written they'll only enumerate the first D3D device, which means your ATI board won't be a choice in almost all games.

If you want to do three heads, it's definitely advisable to stick to the same IHV.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

I've got an old AGP Radeon 9250 that I could swap for the 6800. Would this mean I could get a satisfactory configuration for both tri-monitors in general windows and the 19" working in games?

Another thought is how about buying an old PCI graphics card and sticking the two secondary monitors through that and not having a card in the AGP slot?

I'm really wanting to have triple monitors without sacrificing anything or paying over-the-odds!

    Thanks again,

    pr0p

From what I remember there are no problems running from both the AGP and PCIe slots at once, so you shouldn't need a PCI card.

Going with the 9250 might be your best bet - you should be able to set the 19" (and one of the 17s if you want) off the x1950xt and anything else from the 9250.
