    Should I get a 8800gts

Got some money for xmas. So im wondering if its worth me upgrading from a x1900xt to the 8800gts? At the moment i have a 19 inc tft whaich i do plan to upgrade and im gonna go the vista way as well.

Or alternatively i could go for a platform change and go for a c2g set up. But this will mean alot more money and i'll have to wait longer to get a larger screen.

Need advice asap as im gonna spend my xmas money on something stupid if its left in my hands for to long.

Can't really justify it yet. I'd wait until probably Q1 until the ATi answer comes out, as well as the expected nV refresh to counter it, and then form an opinion.

Personally I'm not finding the 1900XT any real bottleneck in what I use it for, and to be honest, if something was to come along, it's not much of a sacrifice to turn down a few details for one game.

If it were to the 8800GTX, it may be a different matter, and while I'm not pretending the 1900XT is a challenge to the 8800GTS, I certainly don't see a jump from the 1900XT anything other than money poorly spent. For the moment.

I'll likely wait until the 2nd generation DX10 cards come around, probably Q3 or 4 2007.

I was thinking the same thing I think if you do have to go for one get the BFG at £300 from Scan , on overclockers it says it comes with "BFG lifetime warranty" it did say that on scans site to but it's not there no more

If you have the money then go for it and dont think to much about it.

Though I would wait for the R600 and then buy whichever is best.

by the time it finnally comes out nVidia will have a more fast/better/refined 8800GT XTX XT GS (get my drift )

but when the rd600 will come out it should push down the prices of this particular card down nicely.

I guess it depends on what you really need to play for now. I run an X1800Xt 512 on a 1440x900 TFT and theres not really a lot that i cant play without some decent levels of AA or AF. Seeing as you have one level up then I dont see why you need to really.

I would wait until something is pushing your system and by that time the prices may have come down, and also there will be more games to use the features...

    Anyway, just a thought

Hold off for a few weeks until you've seen how well the R600 performs.

Another up for the 8800gts - just built a system for a mate with one installed. Absolutley awesome compared to my 7900gto. He bought the XFX version for around £320.00

I dont see the point in buying a DX10 card just yet, DX9 games took a while to get rolling and by that time the DX9 cards that came out before the games started to look aged.

I no what you mean mate, but i also wanted to watch HD films in there full resalution and my x1900xt cant do that. So while i can still get a good price for it might aswell sell it.
