    Samsung 205BW problem

    Hi,

Just got a brand new Samsung 205BW and it has a rather annoying problem. When it is first turned on, the bottom quarter of the screen is just weird lines. It stays like this for about 20 mins or so and then it's more or less alright although the right hand of the strip still has some odd very faint horizontal lines that get less pronounced as you go leftwards.

The result is the same using both the vga and the dvi cable. I have installed all the drivers for the monitor and also the latest driver for my graphics card (nvidia 5700le).

I think it could be the monitor as I am pretty sure when I was mucking around with cables at the back it showed a black screen with the funny strip at the bottom when no cable was connected although I haven't managed to replicate this.

I've spent the best part of an afternoon googling this problem to no avail.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any ideas?

    Cheers

i'm running xp if that's relevant.

i have the same monitor and have had no problems with it what so ever, to me it sounds like you might have a faulty monitor!

have you tried it on a different pc?

oh and welcome to the forums!

Sounds like a faulty monitor, so send it back for replacement.

Would be good to confirm it is not a graphics card problem by 1) trying a different monitor (a friends?) instead on youirs, and 2) try your monitor on a friends - that should confirm where the problem is.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

My old crt monitor always worked fine with no problems.

I'm sending it back anyway to amazon as there's a scratch on the screen but am worried when I get the replacement that it will do exactly the same thing.

I thought there might be some setting I hadn't applied but if you guys have no problems with the same monitor then hopefully the replacement will sort the problem

    cheers
