Okay.. graphics card upgrade... should I or should I not..

    Right, as title..

The card I'm aiming is probably the 8800GTS, but I'm comtemplating whether I should actually buy it..

Currently using an X1800XT 512MB, is getting a little slow on newer titles.. one for example that stands out like a sore thumb is R6-Vegas where I cant even run decently at 1440x900..

But I'm just thinking, even for one who knows the problem with the waiting game, just cant decide for sure.. Even more when I know a 320MB GTS is coming out soon... should I or should I not...

Would like to also hear some opinions off ppl who already got a 8800GTS.. Good? Bad? Power requirements? etc etc... the list goes on..

I'd wait for the second revision of the cards, or at least the ATi response...

I doubt there will be much difference in the price of the 300Mb and the 640mb versions of the GTS so if you do go for the GTS i would get the 640mb.

I also second the wait for what ATI brings to the table.

i wouldnt go for the 320MB card anyway. seems like a step backwards now. would expect at least a 512MB card considering thats easily available with x1950pro's and 7950GT's

I was going to wait a while for ATI as the X1800XT left a lasting impression due to its superior image quality..

But the R600 has been pushed back again and again.. we're looking at March before we hear anything solid here..

Well, normally I would be saying the same thing - wait for the refreshes.

However I know that you get that itch for the latest generation of products quite badly In which case I think you should wait 2-3 weeks after the release of the 8800gts 320mb and get that.

320mb is more than enough - most designers are aiming for 256 as the limit still, and 320 gives a little bit of breathing room. The most a higher limit will be used for is a small step in texture/normal map quality, which really won't affect your gaming experience. But the time >512mb *is* needed, you'll be on the next generation anyway

With that card I would wait until the 2nd revision (not the refreshers) of the DX10 cards. Obviously you'd see a performance increase going to an 8800GT, but I can't recommend it as good upgrade purely for the performance increase you'll see over the cost. Whether or not you can justify it is down to you, but personally I wouldn't bother yet.

That X1800 will last you a while yet.
