    19" TFT's - widescreen or regular?

Hi, I'm thinking about changing the old faithful Panasonic CRT for an 19" LCD screen. 20"+ are a bit pricey for me I think.

From looking about it seems there is are lots of widescreen (1400x900?? res) monitors as well as the regular 1280x1024 4:3 screens.

Are there any strong advantages or problems with the wide monitor? Any software issues? Do all modern videocards support the odd resolution of the widescreen (I have a 7600GT)? I guess my main use is internet, video encoding and some games and office stuff.

    Cheers

Having used a widescreen 19" after a long time on a 19" boxy I would say it is the way of the future (2 would be better!).

Most games and any graphics card made this millenium should support the 1440x900.

Only issues I have encountered was with BF2 (and 2142) which do not natively support widescreen. However that is EAs madness (and you can edit the config files). Everything else I have encountered does.

I do a lot of web browsing and office work and I find the widescreen invaluable when you want things side by side for comparison.

    Widescreen FTW!!!!!

Got the 19" Daewoo from work and it is a lovely panel, thinking of getting a second one for Brighton to replace my old 19" CRT, or just be greedy and have two side by side.

Considering scan don't do the bargainous Daewoo anymore, I would have to say that, seen these in action and they are beautiful monitors. Iiyama is also a superb make.

I have had the silver version of the Acer monitor and have to say that it has been great since i have had it. I'm not a film buff, so I'm not going to try and pick the bones out of statistics but I'll put it in laymans terms.

The screen itself looks great, with nice styling. The panel is bright enough for general usage and gaming on fast moving FPS and sports games that I play.

Also, the resolution is probably the sweetspot for widescreen, as its enough to be detailed enough at native resolution, but not too high for your card to run smoothly.

I think its a good deal - and even cheaper now! I think that you can get the 20" version for about 150 now - i think there was a link to it in the bargains forum... but thats a slightly higher resolution.

But get it - you wont regret it

    im with crazymonky.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/ have a look here for game compatability, many older titles (and EA games, tards...) will need some prodding but most will work widescreen. ill make a point of mentioning C&C generals, FAR better when set up for wide than it is in 4:3

I bought the 941BW model of that and it's very very nice, I also got it for cheaper than the 940BW because ebuyer had underpriced it for a while by mistake.

The less you are, the less you express your own life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life, the greater is the store of your estranged being." Karl Marx
