help - problems with new gfx card

have just installed new nvidia 7600gt agp card

    i have 400w psu
    1024mb ram
    amd athlon 64 3000+ cpu

pc now runs VERY VERY slowly with every desktop icon taking time to draw individually and screen switching off and on every so often and hanging frequently

can't use menus and it doesn't seem to be able to open more than 2 windows at a time

can't access control panel to check settings etc.

    any ideas please?

uninstall and then reinstall the graphics card drivers and get the new ones from nvidia.

not while its running no... how can you not get into control panel? try and log on as administrator and uninstall them. or just download the ones from nvidia and install them. they should overwrite the old ones.

have tried all ways with drivers and no response - screen runs so slowly that i can't use pc at all and have to reinstall old card each time i want to re-set or access internet etc.

it runs too slowly to open any menus

have decided to go for an upgraded psu

i will go for 500w as others have told me their 7600gt runs ok with this size but is there anything i should look out for when selecting one. i.e. are there different types or will any psu do?

Can you boot into safe mode and see if you can sort out the problem from there?

    update........

    replaced psu
    updated BIOS to latest version
switched BIOS to enable AGP recognition of nvidia card - 'deep FIFO' or something!
    used latest nvidia drivers

uninstalled and reinstalled and eventually it worked!

thanks to all who replied for their support
