^^ Yup. Being digital the quality of the cable doesn't affect quality of picture/audio. As long as it goes from A-B without any breaks then it will be fine
Is it the Sony DVP NS 76 then ?
No need to search much Any decent quality one will do, honestly. If it's doesn't have to be terribly long then most will actually support up to 1080p.
As much as I like expensive cable-y goodness for my hi-fi, sending digital signals is a fairly cheap exercise. There's no actual benefit to sending 1's and 0's down a £100 Monster cable, whatever Comet tell you.
(And to anyone else ready to have an opinion on my hi-fi cables... leave it, it's been done )
am still planning to choose between either a Sony NS76, Philips DVP5960 and the samsung HD860. all have HDMI coonectivity. any specific make or type that is good?
Think they're all fairly decent to be honest, although I don't know too much about the Philips.
Have a look at AVForums, you'll get much more discussion of DVD players there
I bought these:

I still think 20 quid for 2m cable is ridiculous, but its much less than you could pay for HDMI cables. As others have said, you are connecting a digital output to a digital input (DVD to TV), with no analogue stage, so its just 1s and 0s you are sending. You don't need a high quality cable.
would that be a coaxial cable then? so if my DVD player "supports" Dolby Digital or DTS (or otherwise similar) it will output the Dolby sound?
