IDE Drives not recognized in BIOS

    http://www.jetway.com.tw/oldweb/evis...4xfa/p4xfa.htm

im using this motherbord to make a second PC (media center) and neither of my IDE drives (hard drive and CDR/W) aren't being detected in BIOS.

Any ideas why or how i could get them to be detected?

    thanks

You have plugged them into the correct IDE channel and set the jumpers accordingly haven't you? There's two IDE channels on that mobo, probably called Channel 0 and Channel 1, and you'll need to set the jumpers on the back of the devices accordingly (see their instruction manuals), you'll want hard drive on Channel 0 master, then the optical drive as Channel 0 slave OR Channel 1 master depending on whether you want to use 1 cable or two.

    you want to do this:

    |--CDROM (SLAVE)
    |
    |
    |
    |--HDD (MASTER)
    |
    |
    |
    |
    |
    |
    |-- MOBO

or simply connect each drive on a different IDE cable (and it doesnt matter if one is slave/master at all)

thanks for that, i was doing it on one cable, but then someone advised me not to, as the hard drive would be running much slower than normal.

I've got them both detected now, hard drive on channel 1 master
CD Drive on channel 2 slave (missing a jumper so i cant set to master )

but now it wont boot from my ubuntu disk

    any ideas why?

    Nick

Check the Boot Priority in the BIOS, it may be set to:
    FLOPPY
    HDD
    CDROM

you want to change it so that CDROM is before ie:

    FLOPPY
    CDROM
    HDD

what he said...and dont worry about the CD being slave. Not an issue at all.
