PSU for my PNY 8800 GTS?

Can't seem to get my card running ,i've tried a budget 500w psu that says it had 25A on the 12v rail but it still was no good,it just boots up till the windows logo (very faint) is on screen ,and stays at that point going no further.
Even in safe mode the same ,i know it needs 26A on a 12v rail so can some1 pls recomend one that will defo work for about £45 ...been looking about but seems the manufacturers specs are misleading and i dont wan't to be sending crap back n forth,I just wanna get me card working ..lol

I hate to say it Lenny but you really do get what you pay for with PSU's, its one part of the system that i wouldn't scrimp and save on especially if you have a high performance part like an 8800GTS.

I'd be going for something like this
500W Enermax Liberty Modular Series - ELT500AWT £68.73

Again its got modular leads so its much tidier and i know that enermax psu's have never failed me on any of my machines ever.

This is probably the cheapest PSU at SCAN that I would consider (that's in stock), it's £10 over your budget but as TiG implies the PSU is the heart of your PC it's not worth scrimping.

This is also a PSU worth considering, some people will not recomend it as few have had problems with its reliability, but imho its a small minority and you have nothing to worry about its a great psu but not in stock at the mo'.

But personally, i would really push your buget as the PSU is one of the most important pieces inside of your PC. I would go for this if i were you. Best PSU's for your bracket of power on the market. Got one myself and i love it:

Definately spend the extra on a decent PSU and it will last you for a very long time with subsequent upgrades. If you can stretch to get the Corsair HX-520, it is definately one of the best PSUs for a resonable price at the moment and if anything goes wrong, Corsair's support is excellent.

Steer clear of Hipers.
They are flaky at best.

The Enermax Liberty isnt a bad choice. Im using one at the moment and my rails under load are rock solid.

Just skimmed through about 6 reviews and the general concensus is that it is a very good stable PSU. However, the voltages do fluctuate a bit under load and the +5V is slightly underpowered, but nothing that you should really worry about that much.

I still believe that you should pay the extra and get the Corsair HX520 though...

well after all that i decided to go with a cheapish sorta option(risktaker),yep that corsair psu does look nice but as i got the point-of-view 8800 320mb i went for a psu they recomended themselves on their webby..

I am 100% for the statement that a PSU is one of the components you should never think about saving money on and I believe good proportion of your budget should go on a PSU of excellent standards. Too many times have I read that someone decided to buy a cheap PSU for a E6600, 8800gts/gtx etc and ended up ahving to claim insurance on the whole thing becausethe PSU died and decided to take out everything else with it.
