I've just done a build with a Gigabyte P965-DS3 and the CPU fan keeps randomly stopping causing the system alarm to go off, I don't get it.
Go to the BIOS by pressing Del on bootup..
then go to PC HEALTH STATUS and see if both the SMART FAN are enabled, if it is then that should be ok, then go to four options above them which have the alarm settings and either:
A) set it for a higher temp
B) turn it off
just make sure the temps are ok and that its spinning
for reference mine are: (cant remember names so ive labelled them by numbers, and there the five from bottom)
1 - disabled
2 - disabled
3 - disabled
4 - Enabled
5 - Enabled
check the fan is spinning in the blue writing above them and by looking and check the temps preferably not in the bois as there is no stress there on cpu

Might just be a faulty fan.
well by default the alarm is off, so you must have turned it on yourself..
with smartfan the HSF fan speed is controlled and that means it doesnt bother spining when its cool. y guess is that you have just set the alarm either to go off when its not spinning whilst having smartfn on causing it to go off, or set it a at too low temp i would put 70deg as a minimum for an alarm
Eist (that should be all caps but the forum software doesn't seem to like that & keeps changing it).
Not sure with the C2D but AMD's have a quiet and cool option that ramps down Cpu speed/multipliers whilst its not needed to cut down on excessive heat when the CPU isnt in major use
yeh im pretty sure its the same thing for intel, there isnt really a problem with it doing that is there? seeing as it is idle...
