Power supply for 8800GTX maybe SLI

I just downloaded speedfan as another temperature measuring utility and i saw that my current PSU's 12V rails are only at 10V!!! AAAARGH!
So, I decided that i need a new one, and seeing as i currently have a 8800GTX, and I'm getting a new PSU, I may aswell make it SLI ready...

I've seen the Corsair 620HX and heard that it can run an 8800 SLI setup with an OC'd QX6700 and a few other things..

I bought the 730W HiperPower Type-R Modular II, Quad-SLI but there wasnt enough connections, nice PSU but Icouldnt then run my 8800gtx's in sli so I got a Thermaltake 1200w off of Ebay for £196 quid new, as I couldnt find then anywhere else.

So, erm, what are you're thoughts on running an OC'd E6600, 2x 8800GTX, maybe 2 HDDs, and a few other things...Possible?

The corsair 620w only has 2 x pci-e connectors. You need 4 to run a pair of 8800GTX in SLI. So, you would need to use adapters, which isnt ideal.

Personally, i would go for the Enermax Infiniti.

Some people say they cause problems. been using the supplied adaptor on my card for ages now with no problems.

To me, it just seems ridiculous to spend all that money on 2x GTXs and then run them from a PSU that was never designed to.

Why not just get a PSU that has the right connectors for what you plan to do?

And you do realise that SLI with your monitor will do absolutely nothing?

Clunk, I only want the PSU to be able to run it if necessary later on, not now, when my GTX won't have enough power. Also, if the PSU can't, I wont use it, I just wanted your opinions on whether it would, because i found an article about it...

Seriously though, this is what you need, its only about £15 more expensive than the corsair, and is just as good, if not better, and has all the connections.

I'm with Clunk on this, SLI is a gimmic, you pay way to much for such a small power increase. When the time comes and you want something better than the gtx it would be silly to buy another to go with it, just get a faster single card.

I had a thought though... By the time my GTX isn't good enough, the price of GTX's will be quite low, right? wouldn't this mean that i could pick one up really cheaply and then bang them in SLI to save money? Granted, i would see a 1.5x improvement at best but it would be cheaper than a brand new, oh I dunno 9900GTX or whatever's out at the time...

The 8800 GTX requires two 6-pin PCI Express graphics power connectors per card. If you are looking to run SLI with the 8800 GTX, you will need a PSU with four of these connectors. The 8800 GTX will not perform and mines scream at you if the 2nd feed isn't there it will not work at all if only one PCI Express 6-pin power connector is connected to the card.
One single 8800 GTX requires a minimum 450 W PSU with a 12v current rating of 30A.

Why go to all the expense of running £700+ worth of cards and worry about buying a decent power supply to feed them, I run 8800gtx sli and to be honest one card will blow you away no matter what you throw at it, it laughs in your face.... BF2 1920x1200 everything at full it just creams it.

so do you think the 520HX will support an OC'd E6600, 8800GTX, one maybe 2 HDDs, a DVD drive and i think thats about it....maybe other things aswell, i just cant think right now.

My main thing is that i AM going to OC my E6600. Right now at 2.6Ghz with 1.16 volts, so im looking foreward to when I (finally) manage to put my 9700LED inside the case...
