Really stupid question about formating hdd

Ok i have some loud clicking nioses from my HDD so thought it would be a good idea to clone the drive and then replace it, but i've only ever formated a drive where you install the os and can't find a program to do it in xp or a facility to do it in bios.
I have an adapted version of this pc

The said pc is the only one i have the use of so please be quick

There is now a buzzing to go with the clicking!
Shop bought pc so no os discs so need to get this working. It may seem simple to you guys but it's not to me

just right-click on the drive in 'My Computer' and choose 'Format'

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management

You should see the new empty drive in there. Right click on the "Disc X" and click on "create basic disk" (or something like that)

Then create the partitions you want and format.
