    Psu or Motherboard problem??

    Right need help urgently please

I have built a gaming server that I have shipped up to maidstone data center to host it on a 100mbit connection and has been working fine here for 4 days

my mate has recieved it today as he goes to the data center tomorrow

problem is it wont boot now the fans start to spin and then it shuts down with just the two power connecters connected and the mobo out the case so no shorts

he trys a spare psu on it and it works so i would have said psu but if he puts the psu i think is broken on another pc it boots fine

so the problem i have is that i have a psu that wont boot the server but boots other machines and a motherboard that wont boot of that psu but boots of other psu's

so now i,m totaly stumped and so is he, Is it the motherboard or the psu

    Any ideas?

So...exactly which motherboard and which PSU are we talking about? Links to where you bought them perhaps?

Need details of both PSUs - it may be that one PSU id marginal for the system spec of the 'gaming server' but fully OK with the 'other' machine. Also could be a compatability issue of PSU/Mobo compination.

At a guess the psu has a rail that buckles under load and your server mainboard has a higher current pull than the other mainboards your trying it with. Also if it was the mainboard failing then it would do it no matter what the psu was installed.
