    Fujitsu siemens

Picked up one of these old p3 models (dt2-d1171) for my little bro's.

Cd rom was a bit funky.. giving read errors from a disc that worked fine in other comps.

Now the comp is giving a wierd error "operating system not installed", no settings had changed.

I gave the lens a clean, still to no avail. Any idea's on how I can get it going?. Or is it just a give up job. It's a slimline "matsu****a" model. Never heard of the make myself.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The make of CD drive you've got is probably one of the biggest makers of drives in the world, they just don't sell as their name, and usually just get the models rebadged to LG etc.

Sounds like the PC is on the way out, if its p3 its what 7 years old?.

Yeah the pc isnt exactly new, was something picked up on the cheap, hence why replacing the drive would cost more than the pc did. I was hoping for a bit of "usual failure" advice, I have no qualms about ripping the drive apart since it is just a junker anyway.

Doesn't the error just mean that the PC couldn't find an loadable partition, check in the BIOS for the boot order of you press F12 (I think) on boot to get a boot menu so you can select what to boot off.
