recogmending a minimum of 600watts seems like overkill to me.
looking at eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5 as a guide and being overly generious on a couple of things to be safe
I get 310watts as a rough number to work from.
Without any overclocking that 400w akasa should cope.
i make 337w, which i suppose it getting close to its limits.
he also rekons that the 5v rail should be at least 25amps and according tot he akasa website mine does 28 amp maximum load.
dunno if i live with it, buy a new/secon hand psu, or say sod it and flog the load and buy a new machine
This may not be related, but some time ago I had a similar(ish) problem on an nVidia card. After ages searching around I discovered that if I switched off "Enable write combining" the problem went away. This seemed to be related to SiS chipsets.
Give it try, see what happens. You can find this setting in Display Properites -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshooting...

thanks mutley i'll give that a go
even at 337 rough, that gives you 60watts spare.
the 3a spare on the +5v is cutting it close
the fact that it also corrupts with the x800gt from your shuttle.
What spec PSU and cpu has your shuttle got in it?

strangely enough in there:
Which your pc falls intoNOT recommended for high-end setups (ie: dual core cpu + SLI/Crossfire), but still recommended for most low-end/mid-level setups:
Frotron Blue Storm 500W (AX500-A)
Output +3.3V@30A, +5V@28A, +12V1@15A, +12V2@15A, -12V@0.5A, +5Vsb@2.0A
XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W ATX 500W
+3.3V@30A; +5V@28A; -5V@0.5A; +12V1@16A; +12V2@17A; -12V@0.3A; +5VSB@2.0A
the Antec's on that list are better but these two recogmended ones seem to be about the same as your current PSU
i transplanted some of the bits out of my machine into my shuttle.
so thats a shuttle ST20G5 (here and hesus review here)
the bits out of my machine
AMD xp3700+
powercolour x800gto here
1gb DDR3200 patriot ram
then the rest of what was already in there.
Pioneer DVR-110 DVD-RW
WD 250gb s-ata hard disk
all that works perfectly from a 240w psu, and DFI cant make it work with a 400w psu
Try running the shuttle off the 400w psu (it doesn't have to be in the case)
If it all works fine then it's diffenately the motherboard.
Are you useing the latest motherboard drivers and bios?
for the DFI, yeah latest BIOS (there were only 2 rev's) and i used driver cleaner and installed cat 7.3 (or whatever is the current set)
