    bust graphics card, or ?????

i'm getting some odd graphics errors when playing wow and trackmania.

    the system is as follows

    DFI LANPARTY UT RDX200 CF-DR
    XP 3700+
    1gb patriot DDR3200 RAM
    power colour X800GTO
    pioneer DVD-RW
    Segate 200GB hard disk
akasa PSU (300w or 400w, not sure which)

playing wow i get missin triangles, edges of buildings that hyper extend, trees that flicker (look like a triangle is moring or disapearing etc) which is starting to get rather annoying.

so thinking it was the GPU i ripped the card out and stuck in a spare x800 GT AIW i have in my shuttle.

loaded wow and i get exactly the same problem.

so now i'm not sure what the problem is. i reformatted the PC soon after i first had the problem and it continued hence my assumption it was the card, now i havent a clue.

if anyone could shed any light on this i would be greatfull as i dont wanna shell out £100 on a new card to have the same problem

Try the x800GTO in the shuttle... maybe something wrong with the pci/agp slot on the motherboard

sounds like one of the following.

    Dieing graphics card.

    Overheating.

Bad graphics drivers. (or bits of old drivers not being removed correctly)

    Overclocking causeing problems.

both have done it from new (the x800gto) , or virtually new (the aiw has been used for about 2 hours in my shuttle)

dont think so, not checked the temps of the x800gto, but the AIW was sitting at 54 in wow (1440*900)
heatsinks are clear of dust and fans spinning ok

possible, never been sure how to install the driver for an ATI motherboard and GPU, have asked on here before, but never received an answer. the PC currently has catalyst 7.1 on, not sure if thats the motherboard as well or just the GPU

Well on overclocking, it's not just the graphic card, but also motherboard settings and cpu/memory/fsb overclock that can effect it, granted less likely for it to just effect the graphics and not cause other stability issues.

I can tell you how to fully scrub radeon drivers but I'm not sure on driver removeal with ati motherboard chipset, let me have a dig and see what I can find.

Ok looks like it's a bit of a bugger

from ATi's web site it looks like catalyst 7.6 is the latest for the x800 series
you'll also want a copy of drivercleaner, (they now charge $10 for it, so helpful to thoes of us outside the US ) Dig around and you should be able to still download an older version for free which should work.

Now you go to control pannel > add/remove programs select the ATi software uninstall utility and remove it.

reboot, you'll get a hardware wizard poping up asking to install new graphics adapter, just click on that nice little red X in the corner we don't want wizard going anyware near our drivers and this will force it to use standard VGA drivers.

Now run drivercleanern and you want to remove all ATi files execpt:
    ATi AGP
    ATi Sata
    ATi IPG raid

then reboot again, once more teling wizard to get stuffed!
Now run the 7.6 catalyst .exe to install your graphics card.

At least that should be correct . . . I'd back up any files you want to keep first just incase.
You might need to reinstall motherboard dirvers, get the latest off manufactors website.

Just double checked, http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/x...grated-xp.html seems to contain both graphics and southbridge drivers.

na, same problem even after using driver clean and re-installing the drivers.

sent an email off to OCUK explaining the problem and seeing if they will replace the motherboard as i now think its that rather than the graphics

our PC downstairs was giving random graphics corruption in games, thought it was the graphics card... changed it, still no problem.. ran memtest86 and one of the sticks of ram was throwing up errors, replaced that and everything was fine again - its worth a punt?

well thats an RMA request sent off to DFI, 2-3 workign days for a reply.

so i have transplanted the bits of my system into out shuttle (cpu, ram, gpu) and i'm installing WOW.

give me about 4 hours to install all the patches and the burning crusades and i'll put money on the fact that i'm ripping my hair out due to the graphics still being f**ked!!
