Right I bought what was an apparently new Asus P5N32-e from a seller on ebay. I know please dont have a go for me buying stuff on ebay but it was a good price and I couldnt afford a new one. Seller said it was new and unused. But when I opened the package I could tell it was at least fiddled with, even if it didnt appear to have any tail tail signs of dust etc. before we go on I will say that I am an experinced builder but only with the old socket A athlons and before. I've been making my old 3000XP last and this is my first build in 2 years.
Anyway heres the proble:
I followed the instructions in the asus manual and lifted the bar and the plate to fit the cpu (E6300). I immediatly noticed that the cpu socket had what appeared to be bent pins, or pins in the holes that wernt in a straight line. I laid down the cpu in the correct orientation and the right side of it isnt flush with the edge of the socket. As such I didnt lower the plate or lever. If I brush the surface (gently with my finger) of the socket around the areas that dont look straight the pins that seem out of place feel raised above the rest. I am guessing that this isnt normal and that I have been sold a damaged mobo. In the past I have been able to straighten pins on 32 bit athlons, will I need to try this on this board? or will just clamping it down sort it out?
