ASUS P5N-E sli and OCZ DDR2 Problem

    I have a C2D setup, E6600 matched with a ASUS p5n-e sli.

When I initially bought the setup I got 2 x 512MB Kingston PC2-5300 as it was a cheap way of getting a setup started as I had no DDR2 Ram.

All was well until I got some OCZ DDR2 2 x 1GB PC2-6400 Ram which I got from Ebuyer.

Today I finally got my backside into gear and installed the memory.

Anyway the problem is this, One Stick will POST but it will not boot or allow me into the bios setup, the other stick will do nothing.

I have upgraded the Bios to 0608, Tried putting memory timings into the bios, tried to run a single piece, run alongside the kingston that works to no avail.

I understand OCZ isnt the best match for Asus boards but have seen some people on Hexus have the two in their Sig.

The full specs of the ram is: OCZ2G8002GK 5-5-5-12.

I have no other kit at home that uses DDR2 so I am pretty stuck, I will send the ram back to Ebuyer if neccesary.

Its a dead stick of RAM, simple as that. RMA it, not much else you can do there.

Cheers Clunk, It does look like at least one of the pieces is duff but if I get 2 good ones back the compatibility issue may continue

I hope someone on Hexus has the same board and ram to calm my fears.

The problems that you are having, are because the RAM is dead.

As for mixing it with slower RAM, this can also cause a problem, as the slower RAM might not go as fast as the rated speed of the faster RAM, in which case, you will have to run all the sticks at the speed of the slowest stick.
