So despite the Dell's lower spec it would be better to pay extra for it?

I would watch a lot of movies with it.. is it worth paying?

Please explain lower spec as the Dell is higher spec.

I beleive he means response time/contrast ratio being lower than the quoted RT/CR for the Samsung monitor.

That's not an issue at all because the Samsung is not an IPS panel and is not up to the standard of an IPS panel (only the NEC and Dell 20" are IPS panels) so anything less just cannot compare.

Edit @ Mike, yep! check the trailer out!

By the way if anyone wants, I can post a comparison of TN vs IPS regarding viewing angles, it would be enough to put most people off TN and go IPS easily

    I'm really confused!
As mentioned, the Dell is using a different technology, so the numbers aren't directly comparable. Furthermore, both the LG and the Samsung don't really have those contrast ratios - that's the dynamic ratio, ie it's achieved by lowering or raising the backlight. At any one time the LG and samsung only have a 700-800:1 contrast ratio - same as the Dells.

Main difference will be in the colours - the Dell will have noticeably richer colours. 16ms response time is pretty much unnoticeable as the brain's memory effect is around that length anyway.

NEC professional range might be worth a look - thanks to mrk for the info about different panel technologies.

It's actually 8ms on the Dell 2007WFP not 16ms, Dell always state the black to white time instead of the G2G

Okay, sorry to bring back old thread, just making final decision..

So, is the Dell 2007WFP definitely better than SM206BW (for movies and games) despite lower contrast ratio and response time?

Also, is Dell E207WFP same as 2007WFP? Which is better?

Also is it good for playing downloaded HDTV movies...

Well, if it counts for anything - my 206BW showed up a few days ago (check may latest posts in "Post your workspace/desk" for pics ) and it's pretty damn good, one 'half-stuck' pixel right near the bottom - never notice it.

No ghosting in any games I've played so far, not tried with videos yet though.

You must ofcourse, take everything I say with a few pinches of salt, it was an upgrade from rubbish CRT with bad color in one corner, so this looks brilliant compared to that atleast.

Thing is I originally wanted a 206BW, but I knew I was unlikely to get an "S" panel anyway, and I hadn't heard good things about the "A" panels.. So thought i'd be better of just getting the Dell and not risking anything.. but the 2007WFP doesn't support HDCP as far as I know, and it's the most expensive one around?!

Please read the rest of this thread - it hasn't got a lower contrast ratio. It does have more colours.
