Paypal basically are a law unto themselves.
Although i feel for the people ripped off, you only have yourself to blame if you use a company like them.

The problems they pose to customers are in no way fair but there really is nothing you can do.

Google paypalsucks and see the horror stories for yourself.

    The latest update.....

I decided to do a bit of digging and contacted the guy by e-mail. He responded saying that this was not his eBay account and that someone had fraudulently used his PayPal account to make the payment.

I then contacted all 25 of his previous transactions to find out where they had shipped his eBay purchases to and they are all to the registered eBay address.

I have contacted eBay and PayPal and both refuse to do anything about it. I am gobsmacked that having been told that either a) someone has hacked a PayPal account in order to make a false payment or b) someone has hacked an eBay account, that they do not see fit to look into this further.

Also if the PayPal user has had his account hacked and I was paid why am I the one who gets penalised. Shouldn't it be down to the PayPal user to sort this out. End of the day I was being paid for an auction.

The biggest joke of all is the Police. How much do they want to wriggle out of getting involved. The officer I spoke to must have tried 5-6 times to get me off the phone by fobbing me off.

If all else fails I may just drive down to London and pay the guy a visit. At least I'd get some good out of all of this!

but how can you not use them? there the monopoly... theres no other company that you can use... and all ebayers use it now, they dont care about anything else... they think there safe because ebay recommend it etc...

and if you dont allow paypal, you miss out on alot of bids and your item sells for hardly anything...

There is only one way to do it.. Initially try to sell it through word-of-mouth or through forums. Or go to ebay if you must, but dont accept paypal (unless its less than a few pennies in value).

Yes, you miss bids.... But the choices are you miss bids, or you miss both the item and the money you are supposed to have received.

After I got scammed, I have not used ebay to sell anything and I will not unless no other methods work. Even then I might try to sell it at first without accepting PayPal. Obviously if its only a small value item its not worth the hassle, just use Ebay + paypal and risk it.

Happened to me last year too.. Paypal asked me to provide proof of postage, which I did, but they still followed up by basically telling me tough!

Upon closer examination I discovered a few things.. The guy had basically ordered a load of PC parts from various sellers over eBay, and paypal had reversed the transaction on all of em. Ebay even suspended his account, yet paypal still didn't give a ****.

Fortunately for me, the buyer was in London (same as me), and I decided to take it up with him myself. I basically emailed him, stating very clearly that ANYONE at the residence will be *bumping* into me and a few friends over the weekend. Shockingly enough, I recieved a reply from him apologising, and blaming paypal for the *mistake*. Anyways, a couple of days later, I had a cheque in my hands

From that day on, I've never used paypal again, and intend to keep it that way

    seriously so sorry man!"

^I still keep that email to remind me to stay clear of paypal

Am amazed that some people are surprised that this sort of thing goes on. Frankly what with Ebay owning Paypal I wonder why one doesn't hear more of it. Neither Ebay or Paypal give a **** about anyone out here as long as they can make their buck. Ive never bought or sold anything for this amount on Ebay but am now forewarned in case I do. Hope you resolve it soon.
ps and not surprised the old bill don't give a **** either, they're too busy having a cuppa in the station whilst granny gets mugged around the corner.

I'm finally making some progress with this looser! As I said in my last post the police have been no help at all. They asked me to get all the evidence together and take it to the police stations. 10 min later they called to say there was nothing they could do as it was a dispute against me and PayPal and no crime had been committed. I advised that I crime had been committed as someone had fraudulently paid for items off me.

So what I decided to do was contact all 25 eBay users he has had transactions with. I explained the situations and asked them to let me know where they shipped items to and also what name PayPal payments were sent to/received from. To my surprise, all 25 came back with the same name and address which are different from those listed on eBay and to that which I shipped my phone to. I have now sent him a recorded letter advising that if I don't receive payment within 14 days I will be taking him to a small claims court.

    So getting their...... slowly

Good for you buddy - it really does suck that there are people willing to behave in this way and that there really is no honesty around. As to paypal i gave up using them about 3 years ago and would refuse to use them again after all the terrible events you hear about. Yes you may lose out on a few bids on ebay, but to me its worth the security of not having to use paypal. I hope you instruct your bank to under no circumstances allow a transfer to them, when their losing out i wonder if they'll be more interested?
